Many dogs settle more easily in a covered crate because it blocks movement and light, much like a den. Others prefer to see you. Try covering three sides first and watch how your dog reacts. Always leave enough airflow, and skip the cover if your dog tries to pull it into the crate and chew it.
Match the cover to your crate's outside dimensions. Our sizes fit wire crates roughly 25, 31, 37 and 43 inches long. Measure length, width and height, then pick the size whose dimensions are equal to or just over your crate's, so the panels drape neatly without bunching.
A cover traps some heat, so take care in warm weather. Keep the crate in a cool, shaded room, never in direct sun or a hot car, and leave at least one side open for airflow. Watch for heavy panting or restlessness, and remove the cover if your dog seems too warm.
A cover can reduce barking that is triggered by things your dog sees, such as people passing a window or movement in the room. It will not fix barking caused by boredom, a need to go outside or separation stress. Pair the cover with exercise, a consistent routine and positive crate training.
