Cat Beds

Cat beds come in two main styles: open beds, like donuts and woven nests, for cats that curl up in the open, and cat caves or hooded sleeping bags for cats that like to burrow and hide. Choose by where and how your cat already naps, then add a soft blanket for sofas and windowsills.

How to choose a cat bed

  • Hider or sprawler: Cats that sleep under blankets or in boxes usually love a cave or hooded sleeping bag. Cats that nap on open sofas and sunny sills often prefer a donut or open nest.
  • Size: Check weight guidance where listed. Our donut bed comes in 40, 50 and 60 cm, recommended for pets up to about 11, 22 and 40 lb.
  • Season: Plush, velvet and fleece hold warmth in cooler months, while a woven nest stays airy in summer.
  • Location: Put the bed somewhere quiet and slightly raised, such as near a window or on a favorite chair, away from food and litter.

Frequently asked questions

Do cats like cave beds?

Many cats do, especially those that already nap under blankets, in boxes or behind furniture. A cave or hooded sleeping bag gives them a warm, sheltered spot where they can watch the room unseen. Cats that prefer to stretch out in the open may ignore a cave, so watch where your cat chooses to sleep before you buy.

What size cat bed should I get?

Measure your cat curled up and stretched out, then choose a bed slightly larger than the curled-up size for donuts and caves. Check any weight guidance too. Our donut bed, for example, is recommended for pets up to about 11 lb in the 40 cm size and up to about 22 lb in the 50 cm size.

Where should I put a cat bed?

Cats prefer quiet, warm and slightly raised spots where they can see what is going on. Try a windowsill, a favorite chair or a corner of the bedroom, away from busy doorways, food bowls and the litter box. Putting a worn T-shirt or familiar blanket inside can help your cat accept a new bed.

Can you wash a cat bed?

Many cat beds can be washed, but check each product's care notes. Our Warm Cat Sleeping Bag is machine washable in warm water with a mild detergent. Shake or vacuum off loose fur first, use a gentle cycle and let the bed dry completely so the filling does not stay damp.
